You should build or purchase a small NAS device. This way you can
export NFS shares to multiple devices. If you need extra privacy and
security on a shared LAN, then many operating systems now support
WireGuard. This is probably more portable than NFSv4 + Kerberos.

I personally use Raspberry Pi 4 with NetBSD and Samsung T7 SSD. It is
completely silent and uses little power. Linux or FreeBSD could also
work on this hardware.
