Re: remove vncviewer (given tigervnc)
Well, I have still to get tigervnc to work reliably on 9.2 (my office
network currently runs on an old tightvnc version of Xvnc) and I've
been grateful for net/vncviewer providing a dependable known-to-work
access method in debugging. FWIW the Xvnc I use is preserved from 7.x
and runs for months on end without problems. The tigervnc version is
pretty much guaranteed to crash within 48 hours, usually at a most
inconvenient moment and with no helpful error messages. Most likely a
configuration issue I imagine, but I use NetBSD as a platform for
other things, and value being asble to fall back onto older,
known-to-work versions when the latest-and-best doesn't drop in
without major effort. Which is why, since access to older pkgsrc
binaries from previous major releases is no longer available, I have to
be more circumspect in what I rely on.
'Legacy software' is a pejorqative term invented by people who want to
sell you something els. But if I left you a legacy, why would you
want to turn it down or set fire to it?
"Move fast and break things" always struck me as the philosophy of a
toddler with ADHD and anger management problems. "Be smart and build
better" works better in a collaborative world. Or, to misquote
Wittgenstein, "Don't kick the ladder away until you are sure you
haven't left your toolbag at the bottom".
Completely OTT as a response to your modest proposal I know, I just
get philosoiphical around New Year.
Of which please have a happy one.
