Intermittent boot hang on NetBSD on Google Cloud ("waiting for devices: scsibus0")
Hi,
This is my first post to a NetBSD mailing list; please let me know if
this is not the appropriate list.
Background: We use NetBSD VMs on Google Cloud Platform for Postgres
CI. Since GCP does not provide built-in NetBSD images, we create them
manually using packer [1] and the script at [2]. We apply a few
customizations that may affect the boot process:
* Update network settings to enable networking on GCP [3].
* Install an rc.local script that downloads SSH keys at boot and
installs them in the appropriate locations, allowing access via GCP
SSH keys (as used by Postgres CI) [4].
Problem: Intermittently, the NetBSD VM gets stuck during boot on
Google Cloud. When this happens, the serial console repeatedly prints:
"waiting for devices: scsibus0".
This occurs on both cold and warm boots, approximately once every 25
boot cycles. I can reliably reproduce it by repeatedly rebooting the
VM.
I have attached complete serial console logs from both successful and
failed boots. I was not able to identify any meaningful differences
between them.
I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. Please let me know
if you need additional information or clarification.
